Cách dùng

• Diễn tả một hành động kéo dài liên tục trước một thời điểm hoặc một hành động khác trong quá khứ.
  • Ví dụ: They had been studying for hours before the exam started.
• Nhấn mạnh sự kéo dài và nguyên nhân của một hành động hoặc tình huống trong quá khứ.
  • Ví dụ: She was tired because she had been working all day.
• Thường dùng để kể lại các sự kiện trong quá khứ khi muốn nhấn mạnh sự liên tục.
  • Ví dụ: We had been waiting for 2 hours before the bus finally arrived.

Dấu hiệu nhận biết

• Các từ/cụm từ chỉ thời gian:
  • For + khoảng thời gian: She had been reading for 3 hours before dinner.
  • Since + thời điểm: He had been living there since 2000 before he moved out.
  • Before: They had been arguing before the teacher came.
• Các từ diễn tả sự kéo dài:
  • All day, all night, all week: She had been crying all night before she fell asleep.
  • By the time: By the time we arrived, they had been waiting for us for 30 minutes.
