Cách dùng

• Diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ.
  • Ví dụ: At 9 PM yesterday, I was reading a book.
• Diễn tả hai hành động xảy ra song song trong quá khứ.
  • Ví dụ: While she was singing, he was playing the guitar.
• Diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra thì một hành động khác xen vào.
  • Hành động đang diễn ra: Quá khứ tiếp diễn.
  • Hành động xen vào: Quá khứ đơn.
  • Ví dụ: We were walking home when it started to rain.
• Tạo bối cảnh hoặc miêu tả không khí trong câu chuyện.
  • Ví dụ: The wind was blowing, and the waves were crashing against the shore.

Dấu hiệu nhận biết

• Thời gian xác định trong quá khứ:
  • At + giờ + thời gian trong quá khứ (At 10 AM yesterday,…)
  • At this time + thời gian trong quá khứ (At this time last year,…)
• Liên từ thường gặp trong câu:
  • While (trong khi): While I was studying, my brother was playing games.
  • When (khi): I was sleeping when the phone rang.
• Các cụm từ gợi ý hành động đang diễn ra:
  • At that moment, during, all day yesterday,…
  • Ví dụ: She was drawing during the meeting.
