Cyberbullying happens when a young person is harmed, embarrassed, or endangered by someone using technology like the Internet. A study from a Canadian university found that half of the youth interviewed admitted to being bullied. This type of bullying has become very common because it lets teens and children remain anonymous. It’s easier to be mean to someone online than in person, and many believe they won’t be caught.
Children and teenagers behave like this for various reasons. They might feel upset or envious if someone else has higher grades. They might want to get back at someone for something that happened to them. Sometimes, they do it just for amusement or because they’re bored and have nothing to do. Parents may not realize their child is a cyberbully until the victim or their parents reach out to them.
There are several ways to stop cyberbullying. Firstly, it’s crucial to teach children the importance of respecting others’ privacy and taking responsibilities for their actions. Victims should avoid responding to and ignoring bullies and refusing to engage in their behaviour. Seeking support from parents and teachers is also crucial. Many children feel embarrassed and hesitate to report harassment. Schools often participate by arranging meetings between victims’ parents and bullies to address the issue. However, cyberbullying issues may extend beyond school, making parents involve the police and press charges against bullies.

READING COMPREHENSION
Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer.
Bullying leads to a decrease in academic performance. A study by CDC researchers showed that 12.9% of teenagers who missed school due to safety concerns feared bullying.
Victims of bullying may also avoid participating in class for fear of drawing attention to themselves and getting bullied. They may then become labelled as low achievers, putting them at an even higher risk of being targeted by bullies.
Like all forms of bullying, physical bullying can cause emotional change. It makes the victims feel unconfident and think less of themselves. This leads to feelings of shame, isolation, and despair. Moreover, the child may lose interest in playing or activities they previously enjoyed and engage in harmful behaviour, such as self-harm. These actions lead to more negative feelings and thoughts, creating a self-destructive cycle. In victims with existing depression and anxiety, bullying can make these conditions worse. Besides the physical injuries victims may get from the attacks, they may also develop health issues, such as somatization. Somatization includes physical symptoms caused by psychological or emotional factors. For instance, the child may complain about headaches, body pain, or tiredness.
Question 21: What is the main idea of this passage? A. The appearance of physical bullying among teenagers B. The emotional and health effects of verbal bullying on victims C. The positive effects of bullying on victims D. The strategies to prevent bullying in schools

Australians place a high value on independence and personal choice. This means that a teacher or course tutor will not tell students what to do, but will give them a number of options and suggest they work out which one is the best in their circumstances. It also means that they are expected to take action if something goes wrong and seek out resources and support for themselves.
Australians are also prepared to accept a range of opinions rather than believing there is one truth. This means that in an educational setting, students will be expected to form their own opinions and defend the reasons for that point of view and the evidence for it.
Australians are uncomfortable with differences in status and hence idealise the idea of treating everyone equally. An illustration of this is that most adult Australians call each other by their first names. This concern with equality means that Australians are uncomfortable taking anything too seriously and are even ready to joke about themselves.
Australians believe that life should have a balance between work and leisure time. As a consequence, some students may be critical of others who they perceive as doing nothing but study. Australian notions of privacy mean that areas such as financial matters, appearance and relationships are only discussed with close friends. While people may volunteer such information, they may resent someone actually asking them unless the friendship is firmly established. Even then, it is considered very impolite to ask someone what they earn. With older people, it is also rude to ask how old they are, why they are not married or why they do not have children. It is also impolite to ask people how much they have paid for something, unless there is a very good reason for asking.
Question 21: What is the best title for the passage? A. Australia culture B. The story about Australia C. Australia culture shock D. What should we do in Australia?

Assessing law and policy responses
In the past 15 years, all 50 states and the District of Columbia have adopted or revised anti-bullying laws. While this legislative action is promising, few studies have measured the actual impact of anti-bullying laws and policies.
Law has played a key role in responding to many public health issues, from infectious diseases to road safety. To ensure it does the same for bullying prevention, a process for continually assessing and refining anti-bullying laws and policies is needed, according to the Academies report.
Among other things, the Academies report calls for an annual meeting among policymakers, social scientists, and professionals who work with children to review research that assesses the implementation and effect of anti-bullying laws and policies. The aim is to develop better evidence and ensure that research informs decisions Congress and the state legislatures make to address bullying.
Identifying bullying
Research shows that many schools and teachers continue to have trouble identifying bullying and dealing with it successfully.
An essential step to identification of bullying is training for teachers and others who work with children and adolescents. As the Academies report recommends, “evidence-informed bullying prevention training should be provided for individuals, both professionals and volunteers, who work directly with children and adolescents on a regular basis.”
The report notes that such training programs must be ongoing and evaluated to ensure that professionals and volunteers who work with youth can effectively identify bullying and intervene appropriately.

Tourism will always have an impact on the places visited. Sometimes the impact is good, but often it is negative. For example, if lots of people visit one place, then this can damage the environment. The question is: how can we minimize the problems without preventing people from travelling and visiting places?
The main aim of ecotourism is to reduce the negative impact that tourism has on the environment and local people. The idea is to encourage tourists to think about what they do when they visit a place.
It’s great to talk about protecting the environment, but how do you actually do this? There are a number of key points. Tourists shouldn’t drop litter, they should stay on the paths, they shouldn’t interfere with wildlife, and they should respect local customs and traditions.
Some people see ecotourism as a contradiction. They say that any tourism needs infrastructure – roads, airports and hotels. The more tourists that visit a place, the more of these are needed and, by building more of these, you can’t avoid damaging the environment.
But, of course, things aren’t so black and white. Living in a place of natural beauty doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t benefit from things like better roads. As long as the improvements benefit the local people and not just the tourists, and the local communities are consulted on plans and changes, then is there really a problem?
In 2002 the United Nations celebrated the “International Year of Ecotourism”. Over the past twenty years, more and more people have started taking eco-holidays. In countries such as Ecuador, Nepal, Costa Rica and Kenya, ecotourism represents a significant proportion of the tourist industry.

Humans have always been searching for quicker and easier ways to get around. About 10,000 years ago, we built canoes made from logs of wood, while on land we started riding horses around 4000 BC. Roughly 500 years later, we invented the wheel, which led to carts and wagons, and at almost the same time, the Egyptians invented the sailing boat.
Up until the 18th century most people travelled by sailing boat, horse or stagecoach, but in 1769, there was a major breakthrough when the Scottish inventor James Watt invented the steam engine. In 1783, the French inventor Claude de Jouffroy used this to build the first steamboat, and in 1804 the Englishman Richard Trevithick constructed the first steam-powered train. Railways helped carry coal around Britain and were an important part of the Industrial Revolution.
Another major breakthrough came when Karl Benz built the first working car in 1885. Then, in 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright built the first aeroplane. These two inventions shaped the 20th century. Over time, cars and plane travel became cheaper so that by the 70s a lot of families owned a car and many were holidaying abroad.
Nowadays, companies are developing self-driving cars and we will soon be able to take trips into space. The fascinating story of transportation continues and who knows how we’ll be getting around in the future.

It can take a long time to become successful in your chosen field, however talented you are. One thing you have to be aware of is that you will face criticism along the way. The world is full of people (26) ______ would rather say something negative than positive. If you have made up your mind to (27) ______ a certain goal, such as writing a novel, don’t let the negative criticism of others prevent you from reaching your target, and let the constructive criticism have a positive effect on your work. If someone says you’re totally in the lack of talent, ignore them. That’s negative criticism. If, (28) ______, someone advises you your work and gives you a good reason for doing so, you should consider their suggestions carefully. There are (29) ______ film stars who were once out of work.
